UM President supports Wente firing

University of Missouri President Gary Foresee (left) stands by UMSL's decision to fire Patty, as noted towards the end of this Post-Dispatch article.

Also, the old-timers at Donnybrook discussed the firing on their June 5th show, starting at about the 13th minute.

The Donnybrook discussion only shows how little one really needs to know to earn pundit status these days.

I saw the Donnybrook taping and was so frustrated they didn't have their usual "Your Turn" so I could call in as a current KWMU employee and 'enlighten' Ms. Weiss & Mr. Hartmann.

The general public clearly doesn't understand what it was like to work under her vulgar, druknen fist. The only thing I can believe is they're hoping she'll hire them wherever she goes! (W & H that is) Thanks to the McClelland's & Brennan's of the world who actually take a moment to read and gather some facts before they go on the air.

I thought Weiss & Hartmann sounded like fools supporting Ms. Wente. May they all rot at the bottom of the same wine barrel!

it is just one show and yes part of the panel glazed over the truth. It really does not matter what the roundtable said because she has been fired. Kaput. Gone. Fired faster than one of her drinking binges at Breakaway. Remember if you wanted something approved or to have a mtg, the servers at that cafe got great tips from her as oppsoed to her back at her office. Heck I should have worked there at Breakaway instead of with that drunk almost no clothes on ruthless dictator. By the way Breakaway has good food too!!

It still goes to show how little the public, press, members, listeners, etc. understand about the situation. They still think it was all about personality and management style when actually, it is all about abuse of position and authority. Fruad against the members, use of our tax money for her personal gain. Seriously, I am still trying to figure out when and if UMSL is going to prosecute or when someone will get the guts to force their hands through some type of lawsuit.

No need to be anonymous:

A quick note to Pat Wente: I would have dropped you a note sooner, but I only received the news of your anticipated demise of your KWMU career yesterday. I’m sure with all the special talents you have showered upon your fellow contemporaries over the years; one of them will assist you to end up on your feet. Go for it girlfriend, try a new position, for a change. The other preferred position you were so fond of never worked for you, even with all the enthusiasm you put into it. I’ll be sure to share your situation with all I know that have had the pleasure of our husbands crossing your path over the years. There are so many of us that with all of our support and prayers, you’ll be sure to end up exactly where you deserve to be. Best of luck…happy holidays….

Statement from UMSL

UNIVERSITY REPLACES GENERAL MANAGER

University of Missouri-St. Louis Chancellor Thomas George today terminated the employment of longtime KWMU (90.7 FM) general manager Patricia Wente. The action followed a review of financial and management issues raised by current and past employees and outside auditors.

“KWMU is a St. Louis treasure,” George said. “This action is being taken to protect that treasure for the university and the community.”

KWMU is a National Public Radio affiliate with a 100,000-watt signal. The station is housed at the University of Missouri-St. Louis and licensed to The Curators of the University of Missouri.

George said that he has asked that KBIA (91.3 FM) General Manager Mike Dunn serve as interim general manager. Dunn has been the general manager of the public radio station on the University of Missouri-Columbia campus for 22 years.

“It is not unique that one UM campus loan expertise during times of transition and I’m thankful to MU for their cooperation,” George said. “I know that our award-winning radio staff here will work well with Mike as he oversees daily operations, as well as continues to review the station’s financial and management policies. We want to ensure that the proper checks and balances are in place to maintain our fiscal integrity and highest standards of professional behavior.”
