Why is Patty Wente still on the job?

A newspaper article exposes questionable spending at a non-profit. Within days, the board that runs the non-profit puts the organization's top leader on paid leave, pending the outcome of an investigation.

Of course there's no way we're talking about KWMU because KWMU has no board with any actual authority (just look at last night's Friends Board meeting, where nothing happened and nothing pertaining to the ongoing crisis was mentioned).

No, the scenario I describe here happened in New York, at the American Bible Society.

See for yourself here.

So, we ask one more time: Why hasn't Patty at least been put on paid leave during the university's investigation?

It certainly gives one pause and is a negative reflection on UMSL. Given the depth and seriousness of the allegations, it would seem that putting Ms. Wente on paid administrative leave would be the accepted business practice. Surely this review team has enough evidence by now to fire her. Is this review legitimate or just a way for UMSL to whitewash yet another scandal on its watch?

Let's cut right to the chase: Since Patty was never placed on administrative leave several weeks ago, we should all by now know the University won't do anything. The investigation is coming from the University of Missouri-Columbia, a.k.a. the mothership. Yes you can make a case that UMSL should have done something but in all reality, they really can not take any action because all orders are coming from the top. Remember: the final report has not been issued and the Curators of UM haven't seen those findings either.

This is an on-going matter and because of all her mistakes and faux pas over the past 20 years, it appears this will take some time.

As a former employee who spoke with the 'review' team- and knowing what I know was reported to the 'review' team- the fact that she has not been placed on leave only shows that UMSL is doing what it can to contain the situation and keep everything as is.

A note to UMSL- those of us who came forward (both current and former employees) and gave you all the information we had - that goes back well over 8 years- on the mismanagement by Patty Wente- the door has been opened- and we will not let it shut until something is done.

Whitewash all you want.
This is not going away.

As to why we still remain anonymous, Patty stalked the widow of her former boyfriend. That is- she was stalking a widow days after her husband's sudden death.

Patty was instructed by the funeral director to not attend her former boyfriend's funeral.

This is just scratching the surface of the stalking claims by the widow.

Being told to not attend a funeral is not stalking- however- how many people do you know have been contacted by a funeral director informing them they are not allowed to attend the funeral?

The actual stalking allegations are appalling. If you knew what they were- it would make you sick.

If you knew what Patty made staff members do on station time to assist her with stalking the widow- you would understand why we remain anonymous.

By the way- the Review Team knows all about this-the full story.

Patty is a sick woman. As a former employee- knowing what I know- I will continue to remain anonymous.

Meet the new Chancellor - same as the old Chancellor. Just another puppet.

As a former contributor to the station, I wonder if Patty thinks we all forget about her antics by the time the Fall Fund Drive '08 rolls around. Are we that stupid? I don't think we will forget unless action is taken against her before summer concludes.

Patty Wente did some sick stuff and to the suthor of post four, I can't imagine what you personally experienced. For all you single guys out there who are over 40 and have money...married guys as well...to not engage in any type of conversations with her. She needs to be dateless in St. Louis and one day unemployed.

Patty Wente is a drunk and a liar. She will abuse and manipulate people if given the chance. Misappropiation of funds and abuse of her staff in the workplace should have gotten her terminated immediately. A drunk driving arrest, stalking people are just a small amount of the horrendous behavior she has shown. Anyone doing business with her is a fool. Outside of the workplace her social behavior appalling, rude and domineering. In the few times I have had the misfortune to be in her company I never seen her sober. UMSL policies are worthless, allowing the PBS employees to be subjected to this menace. Her alcoholism will be the death of her and let us hope she does not kill anyone before the alcohol kills her.

Statement from UMSL

UNIVERSITY REPLACES GENERAL MANAGER

University of Missouri-St. Louis Chancellor Thomas George today terminated the employment of longtime KWMU (90.7 FM) general manager Patricia Wente. The action followed a review of financial and management issues raised by current and past employees and outside auditors.

“KWMU is a St. Louis treasure,” George said. “This action is being taken to protect that treasure for the university and the community.”

KWMU is a National Public Radio affiliate with a 100,000-watt signal. The station is housed at the University of Missouri-St. Louis and licensed to The Curators of the University of Missouri.

George said that he has asked that KBIA (91.3 FM) General Manager Mike Dunn serve as interim general manager. Dunn has been the general manager of the public radio station on the University of Missouri-Columbia campus for 22 years.

“It is not unique that one UM campus loan expertise during times of transition and I’m thankful to MU for their cooperation,” George said. “I know that our award-winning radio staff here will work well with Mike as he oversees daily operations, as well as continues to review the station’s financial and management policies. We want to ensure that the proper checks and balances are in place to maintain our fiscal integrity and highest standards of professional behavior.”
